Sampson’s Prosthetic and Orthotic Laboratory has an immediate, opening for a Certified Prosthetist Orthotist (CPO) to join our team. We are seeking an individual who will stand out with a compassionate positive attitude and the desire to work as a Team Member. The primary function of the CPO is to evaluate, complete the design, fabrication, modification, repair and maintenance of orthoses/prostheses for our patient population as prescribed by the health care practitioner or specialist. As a Certified Prosthetist/Orthotist specifically trained and educated to independently provide or supervise the provision of comprehensive prosthetic and orthotic care. This includes clinical assessment, formulation of a treatment plan, patient management, technical implementation, practice management, follow-up, professional responsibility while following Medicare compliance standards. This position works as a member of a multi-disciplinary team with the ability to work independently and help to foster relationships with hospitals, facilities, physicians and caring for patients. When needed, this role will provide assistance and recommendations for assuring adequate inventory supply levels for our company while noticing healthcare trends to provide the most cost effective alternative to aid in the wellbeing of our patients. A CPO must have the ability to educate patients on how to maintain their prosthetic and orthotic devices.
Education: Master’s Degree preferred or Bachelor’s Degree & Graduate of an ABC accredited program in both orthotics and prosthetics.
*Candidate must be certified by the American Board of Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics. Training and Experience: Three to five years of demonstrated sound knowledge (both clinical and technical) of O+P.
Skills and Knowledge: Demonstrated leadership ability to work as a team member. Collaborate with physicians in the evaluation and analysis of a patients need for prosthetic/orthotic services; recommend treatment options to physicians when necessary. Examine and evaluate patient’s needs relation to disease and functional loss. Formulate, design, oversee and aid technicians in the fabrication of O+P devices; select materials, take measurements, model modifications, and layouts, taking into account new techniques and materials. Perform fittings, include static and dynamic alignment. Evaluate prosthesis/orthotic on patient, adjust to assure fit, function and quality of work. Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively work with physicians, physical therapist, patient/families and all members of the health care team. Professional appearance and behavior, working knowledge of the physical and developmental O+P needs. Instruct patient in the use and care of their devices. Identify; reconcile issues to ensure patient satisfaction with devices provided. Provide follow-up with patients and physicians. Utilize effective materials management, quality and performance process to maximize device quality and medical necessity, maintain a balance with costs and operational financial performance. Responsible for proper detailed clinical documentation for medical records, coding, billing responsibilities for all devices fitted while following Medicare compliance standards.
